The Queen has paid tribute to Prince Philip by wearing the same brooch she had on during her honeymoon while delivering her annual Commonwealth Day speech to the nation.

Her Majesty, 94, who recently organised a sweet tribute to Sir Captain Tom Moore as he was laid to rest, donned a blue dress and jacket made of silk and wool cloqué by British designer Angela Kelly.

She teamed the outfit with several pearl necklaces as well as her chrysanthemum brooch, which she placed on her left shoulder.

It was a gift from W.B. Marr, Chairman at the time of Sunderland-based shipbuilders Sir James Laing & Sons Ltd. Most notably, she wore the brooch on her honeymoon to Prince Philip, who remains in hospital after undergoing a “successful procedure” on a pre-existing heart condition, back in 1947.

During her speech, the Queen stressed the importance of staying in touch with family and friends during these “testing times” amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking about the ongoing Covid-19 battle, she spoke of technology that “transcends boundaries or division” and how there has been a “deeper appreciation” of the need to get in contact with loved ones throughout this time.

The monarch also commended the “selfless dedication to duty” seen across the Commonwealth.

It comes just hours before the Queen’s grandson Prince Harry, 36, and his pregnant wife Meghan Markle’s Oprah Winfrey interview is due to be aired in the US.

During a trailer for the interview made public by CBS, Meghan hinted that The Firm are “playing an active role in perpetuating falsehoods” about her.

ITV have secured the rights to air the two hour special just 24 hours after it is broadcast in the US, in a deal which is believed to be worth ÂŁ1,000,000.

CBS, who will air the interview stateside, have released a second teaser from the explosive chat, in which 67 year old Oprah asks the Duchess of Sussex how she feels about the palace hearing her “speak her truth”.

Meghan responds: “I don’t know how they could expect that after all of this time we would still just be silent if there is an active role that The Firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us. “If that comes with risk of losing things, I mean, there’s a lot that’s been lost already,” she continues.
